Community Support is a service we provide for people living with or affected by HIV. ‘Affected by HIV’ means that you could be the partner, carer or family of someone who is HIV positive, and you may need support in your own right. Community Support is a free, confidential service which is flexible and aims to respond to the needs of individuals. Support can include practical, social and emotional support, information, and complementary therapies (e.g. reflexology and massage). The following are examples of what NYAA may be able to help you with:
This is not an extensive list of the services we may be able to offer – there may be other ways in which community support could assist you. Complementary Therapies have been shown to be beneficial in reducing stress, relieving symptoms or side-effects of anti-HIV drugs or to prevent the manifestation of HIV related illness. For this reason, NYAA is happy to offer a range of complementary therapies to people living in North Yorkshire who are HIV positive. We are currently able to offer: Acupuncture, Acupressure, Aromatherapy, Chiropractic, Massage and Reflexology. These treatments are provided by practitioners which are trained (in issues of HIV) and approved by our organisation. To access these services you can call us on 01904 640024 or come into the office for an informal chat or you can or email us for more information. You can also ask your clinical nurse specialist, consultant, GP or other professional to make a referral on your behalf and then we can contact you. We are a small and friendly team and we try our best to be flexible around your needs.
